Messaging sellers
ScentSell has a built-in real-time messaging system so you can communicate with sellers before and after a purchase — without sharing personal contact details.
How to open a conversation
- Go to any listing page
- Click the Message seller button beneath the listing details
- Type your message and press Send
You can also access all your conversations from the Messages icon in the header navigation (top right). A badge shows unread message counts.
Before purchase — asking questions
Common things buyers message sellers about:
- Condition details ("Is the bottle completely full?")
- Authenticity questions ("Do you have the original receipt?")
- Fragrance performance ("How does this wear in summer?")
- Bundling ("Would you sell both bottles for a combined price?")
Sellers who respond quickly tend to complete more sales. If a seller hasn't replied within 72 hours, it's reasonable to move on to another listing.
After purchase — order communication
Once you've bought a listing, your message thread with that seller stays open. You can use it to:
- Arrange special packaging requests
- Ask for a photo of the parcel before it ships
- Follow up on delayed dispatch
For formal disputes or refund requests, use the Dispute process rather than the message thread — disputes are escalated to admin review.
Response time expectations
ScentSell asks all sellers to respond within 72 hours. Seller response time is visible on their profile and contributes to their overall rating.
