How a ScentSell sale works
When ScentSell runs a sale, it has a name — not a generic “cheap” bag. Sellers choose which of their pre-owned bottles go in. You see that sale on the marketplace: the new price in green, the old asking price crossed out, and the sale name on the card.

On a listing
Before it starts, a bottle already in that sale still shows today's asking price, plus a line that it is in the named sale (for example September Sale) from the open date. The price has not changed yet.
When the sale is on, a bottle in it shows:
- The sale price in green — that is the price you pay
- The old asking price crossed out
- The sale name (for example September Sale) and the percent off
That is the price you pay. Offers, if the seller accepts them, still sit on that listing as usual.
On the marketplace
Before it starts, /market?promotion=… still names that sale and shows the bottles sellers have already put in, at today’s asking prices. A leftover ?sale=1 link is rewritten to that named sale — it is not a cheap bag. The marketplace banner names it too and links to those bottles — it does not claim the green sale price yet. A quiet countdown under the header counts down to the open; you can close it if it is in the way. The green sale price and crossed-out old price appear when it actually opens.
When a sale is on:
- A banner names it
- A strip at the top shows bottles in that sale
- Opening the sale — the named chip, or a link like
/market?promotion=…— shows just those bottles
Best match (the usual sort) puts sale bottles first. Newest and Oldest stay genuine date order. Cheapest is a sort of every listing, not the ScentSell sale filter.
Sale is not Boost
Boosted is paid placement a seller bought. A sale bottle only appears there if they also paid for a Boost. The named sale strip can still show sale bottles that were never boosted.
Joining, if you sell
Sellers put bottles in from Dashboard → Promotions. Each bottle has Join or Leave. Shoppers do not join a sale — you just shop the named bottles.
