Swapping kindly

A swap is a handshake. Two people, trusting each other, sending bottles into the post on the same good faith. That only works if everyone behaves like the fragrance people they are — so ScentSell asks a little of you, and holds everyone to the same line.

The handshake​

Every time you propose a swap, you'll see a short, friendly reminder. It's not legalese — it's just the things that keep swapping good for everyone:

  • Be kind and respectful in your messages. We're all fragrance people here.
  • Say what you mean and reply promptly — a swap is two people trusting each other.
  • Once it's locked in, post within 48 hours and add your tracking.
  • Keep it on ScentSell. If anything goes sideways, we can actually help.

How conduct is held​

This is the part that makes the handshake mean something.

  • Messages are checked for kindness as you send them. If a message reads as abuse, or tries to move contact or payment off ScentSell, you'll be asked to reword it before it sends. Nothing nasty, nothing off-platform — it just doesn't go through.
  • An AI moderation backstop reviews messages as well, so the curated check isn't the only line of defence.
  • This applies to everyone equally. The person you're trading with is held to exactly the same standard you are.

One strike​

ScentSell runs a one-strike approach to serious misconduct. We'd rather coach than punish — but abuse, trying to scam a partner, or repeatedly dragging trades off-platform can get your account suspended.

If your account is suspended:

  • You can't propose new swaps — the proposal flow will tell you, and stop you, fail-safe.
  • You can write to sniff@scentsell.com.au to sort it out.

The bar isn't high to clear. Be straight, be kind, post on time, keep it on platform — that's the whole of it. The overwhelming majority of swaps never come close to any of this.

Why it's worth it​

The reason swapping works at all is trust. A small community that treats each other well is one where you can send a bottle to a stranger and get a great one back without it being a gamble. Every kind message and every on-time parcel makes the next swap a little safer for everyone — including future you.
